Iroh is a sweet, older gentleman who’s seen a lot throughout his life. He was born in Bozja and his family fled the Garlean camps when he was still very young. He then trained as a gunbreaker under his father and brother, and set out to carve his path as a sellsword. During one of his jobs he met his future wife, Étoi’le, with whom he settles down in Summerford, La Noscea after the two of them assisted Loisoix Leveilleur in his endeavours forestalling the Seventh Umbral Calamity. He was then called once more to action by Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn and ends up at the Battle of Carteaneu where he then ends up suspended in the Aetherial Sea after the Fall of Dalamud.
Five years later he emerges from the Aetherial Sea with amnesia but stumbles into Limsa Lominsa and meets up once again with Merlwyb who helps him remember who he is and gives him the news of his wife’s passing due to sickness only about a year after his disappearance after Carteaneu. Overcome by grief he retreats to Coerthas to live a life in solitude, as a Scholar and picking up his wife’s old practice of Astrology. It is there he runs into Mako Kuroya, a Dragoon of Ishgard, whom his fate ends up being more intertwined with than he could have ever imagined.
